hi, i am an intermediate tennis player.
I have just changed my forehand grip from eastern to semi-western, I am now getting lots of topspin but less power and not as flat.
does anyone have some tips on how to hit a powerful and flat forehand with a semi-western grip -

Hey buddy what u need to do is try and hit through the ball and take your racquet a bit further before your follow through starts

I don’t think semi western can result in a flat shot…….it will be a shot with top spin
eastern gives you a flat shot

The semi western is the grip of choice for players that wish to it with more topspin. You will need to hit through your strike zone in the direction of where you want the ball to go. The topspin stroke is a low to high stroke pattern, the more you go low to high through the strike zone the more spin. Turn your shoulders and act like your throwing your racket to the other side of the court, contact the ball to the side and before it is even with your body, then finish somewhere around shoulder level. This will give you the feel of hitting through the strike zone for a (not flat) lower topspin ball over the net.
